File Distribution & Mirroring
- Application & use of PowerSync®'s Replicate feature
Replicate can be useful when you have a "master"
source directory containing specific software programs or
data files that you want to distribute to client-PCs in a
network. Replication is also an effective method of mirroring
two computers on a network.
Replicate Feature
PowerSync's Replication is the process whereby one directory
is replicated onto another by adding, deleting, and updating
files on the destination until they match those on the source.
It has the same effect as deleting everything on the destination
and then copying everything from the source to the destination.
Identical date/time files are not affected and therefore not
copied over to the destination.
With PowerSync, a Replicate process can be run automatically
(as a stored Auto-Sync™) or manually. A Replicate may be launched
automatically by choosing from a full range of PowerSync's
Scheduler options.
Benefits to the User
In addition to its significant time saving benefits, Replicate
can also improve the availability of current information in
multiple locations. Thus faster and better decisions are possible.
Setting up a Replicate
Note: Use Replicate with caution. This function may delete
files from the destination directory.
A Replicate process can be started automatically (as a stored
Auto-Sync™). When you check the Replicate left to right box
in the New Auto-Sync screen, the Replicate Options button
becomes available. Selecting (Clicking) this button produces
the screen shown below. If you want unmatched files which
exist ONLY in the destination (right side) to be erased, then
place an X in the box Delete Unmatched in Destination. Please
note that this option is selected by default.
