Scheduling Automatic Operations
- Automatically update selected files and directories
The Need For Scheduled Operations
Often there will be a specific set of directories and files
that you may want to update or back up regularly. Typically
this could be an update or backup between a laptop or desktop
PC and a network server. This is a classic use of our Auto-Sync™
application.
Auto-Syncs are often used to update (synchronize) a specific
set of files from one computer to another at a pre-set time
(such as a daily backup). Further, while these operations
may be scheduled from within PowerSync's built-in scheduler
i.e. Auto-Sync, they may also be scheduled and run from an
external program using the Windows command line.
The Auto-Sync™ Feature
Auto-Syncs automatically updates and synchronizes directories
and files. Enabled only in the Select screen, the New Auto-Sync
feature lets you select and save a directory-pair and associated
Options into a file to be recalled later. Saved Auto-Syncs
can be run either manually or automatically. They can be launched:
- directly or through a command line,
- by PowerSync®'s built-in scheduler
- Or as a Windows' startup item.
Benefits to the User
This is a time saving feature, which provides increased productivity
with Effortless and Reliable File Updates.
Creating New Auto-Syncs

New on the Tool Bar. The dialog box shown below (New Auto-Sync)

Unattended or Background Operation
For unattended or background operation please insure that
the steps listed below are taken. These steps will disable
all dialog boxes that require user confirmations, allow PowerSync
to run minimized and then quit when the Auto-Sync has completed
1. In the New Auto-Sync dialog box do the following:
- Confirmation Dialog Boxes will not appear it you disable
(turn off) all five Confirmations. You do this by clicking
on the Confirmations button and then by clicking on the
box next to each item. An item is disabled when the box
next to it is empty (no X in it).
- Conflict confirmations will not appear if you select
"Auto rename" in the Conflict Options dialog
box. You do this by first clicking on the Conflict Options
button.
- PowerSync will run in the background and quit when the
Auto-Sync is complete if in the New Auto-Sync dialog box,
you place a X in the two check boxes labeled "Quit
when sync complete" and "Run minimized"
The Auto-Sync application must be active in order to trigger
automatically. It is added to the Windows StartUp group
when PowerSync is installed. Therefore it will StartUp when
Windows starts up. It is also mandatory that all files to
be synchronized be closed prior to performing the synchronization.
If these files are open then they will not be synchronized
during the current Auto-Sync process
