Updating
portable PC files using file synchronization
PowerSyncŪ keeps your portable and desktop PC files up-to-date
When you take your files on the road with your portable PC
and you work with the same files on a desktop or server back
at the office, you need to keep your files up to date on both
systems. PowerSync for Windows can do this for you. It is
quite versatile, has automatic features and can be used back
in the office or on the road to do your portable PC file updates.
Easy File Sync after a Trip
If you travel with your portable computer, upon returning
to the office, you can "plug in" and automatically
synchronize your files. If your other PC is a desktop, then
you can connect to it with a LAN or direct
cable connection and perform the update. On the other
hand, if the other PC is a server on a LAN, you can "plug
in" to a LAN jack, a docking station, or a port replicator.
Once you establish the connection, the directories and files
can be synchronized. PowerSync does this automatically when
you "plug in" and start Windows.
File Sync While on the Road
If it is essential to your business that you update your
office files remotely while you are on the road, several things
are required. Your portable PC must have a modem and remote
access dial-out software. The computer back at the office
must have remote access connection software. Once the connection
is made, use PowerSync to synchronize
your files.
What is file synchronization?
Files get out of sync when you add, delete or update a file
on one of your computers and not on the other one. This usually
happens when you take your laptop or notebook away from your
office. When you return to your office, you want to synchronize
your computers so that both have the latest versions of your
files. When you finish synchronizing, the selected directories
and files are identical on both PCs. The synchronization software
compares the directories and files on both PCs and makes sure
that the latest copy is on each. PowerSync
gives you this capability.
